Indianapolis IN—The State Board of Education voted to allow CCSJ Charter Authority to proceed with the authorization of Thea Bowman Leadership Academy.

“We are pleased with this outcome,” said Carrie Hutton, Executive Director of CCSJ Charter Authority. “This will enable Calumet College of St. Joseph to expand our mission of service and education. We celebrate this decision and the opportunities for growth at Thea Bowman. We look forward to helping the school meet their potential.”

CCSJ Charter Authority currently serves as the authorizer for Hammond Academy of Science and Technology (HAST). They accept applications for chartering twice annually—letters of intent are due by July 15 each year for January authorization starts, and January 15 each year for July authorization starts.

CCSJ Charter Authority assesses charter schools against 5 core principles: a distinct social-justice orientation, a student-centered approach, effective organizational structures, community involvement, and independent accountability.
