WHITING, IN, August 14, 2023—Calumet College of St. Joseph, in collaboration with Ivy Tech Lake County, recently unveiled a new Cybersecurity Lab. This ribbon-cutting event was the culmination of a shared effort between the two institutions.

“The opportunity for us to collaborate in order to serve students and industry is achieved in these facilities,” said Amy McCormack, President of Calumet College of St. Joseph, who cut the ribbon opening the new lab and secure server room.

The facilities will house a joint program between the two schools. Ivy Tech Lake County students can take Cybersecurity/Information Assurance classes at the new lab during their pursuit of an Associate’s Degree. Those completing the Ivy Tech coursework can matriculate to CCSJ in order to complete a Bachelor’s Degree with a minor in Cybersecurity.

“This partnership has allowed us to offer a more comprehensive and affordable cybersecurity education than either institution could offer on its own,” said Marcos Rodriguez, Interim Chancellor of Ivy Tech Lake County.

This education holds significant benefits for graduates, allowing Region students access to a global workplace market. According to the Computing Technology Industry Association, over 660,000 cybersecurity jobs are currently unfilled in the United States. Cybersecurity specialists earn an average salary of $106,000 according to Cyberseek.org.

“This is the day I have dreamed about,” said Ron Bush, retiring instructor of Cybersecurity at CCSJ. “These two schools have come together to recognize not only the needs but the solutions, as well. We have a problem with cybercrime. Everyone needs someone to protect their business, their agency, their program. This is a step in that direction.”
