Position Summary:

The Student Success and Retention Coordinator is responsible for the overall implementation and coordination of retention programming and initiatives to support and enhance student engagement and learning. This position will assist special populations (i.e. first and second-year students, first-generation College students, low-income students) in establishing their professional and academic goals by identifying student needs and offering necessary student success services that lead to persistence and on-time graduation. The Student Success and Retention Coordinator is also responsible for the oversight of the Retention Key Performance Indicator for year one and year two.

Note: Grant funded through September 2026 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement retention initiatives and engaging programming that responds to the evolving needs of first-year students and other populations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement curricular and cocurricular initiatives for second-year students in collaboration with faculty, Career Services and other departments.
  • Measure and monitor the retention Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and identify necessary changes to address retention.

  • Track student enrollment and retention statistics, gather data, and write reports regarding program success and impact. Evaluate progress of new student programs to ensure continuous improvement and growth.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement New-Student Orientation for first-time freshmen and transfer students.
  • Teach GENL 100 (College Survival) course(s).
  • Provide data and reports necessary for grant reports each semester.
  • Collaborate with campus partners such as GENL 100 faculty who support the first-year experience and coordinate meaningful and welcoming activities that foster student engagement, academic success and a sense of belonging.
  • Serve on the ARC committee and collaborate with the ARC Chair and the Retention Coordinator for Athletics in identifying at-risk students, developing appropriate interventions, reaching out to students, and working closely with them to meet college expectations.
  • Provide support, resources, and outreach to students in special populations.
  • Maintain records and provide narrative and/or written progress reports as directed, including program assessments/evaluations, budget reports, and program reports.
  • Use data and predictive analytics to design timely and strategic interventions for student support.
  • Oversee the Peer Ambassador program (hire, train, and supervise).

Minimum Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Education, College Student Personnel or related field
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Data management/analytical experience in assessing student success
  • 1 year experience coordinating student support programs

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Education, College Student Personnel or related field preferred
  • Strong communication written and oral; knowledge of Microsoft Professional Suite, ability to develop and sustain working relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • 2 years experience in student retention or student services
  • Experience with diverse learners; a sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of Calumet College students
